Volkswagen AG has trimmed its internal goal for 2012 sales in western Europe by as much as 140,000 vehicles, according to Germany's Handelsblatt.
The newspaper quotes Bernd Osterloh, head of the VW works council, who also is a member of the company's supervisory board. VW has not disclosed its sales targets.
Last month Handelsblatt, citing anonymous sources, said VW had slashed its sales target by 300,000 vehicles. The company dismissed the report, saying it had made "minimal" reductions to its goal.
VW also has pared its internal plan for global production (including its MAN and Scania truck units) by 300,000 units from its earlier forecast to 9.4 million, according to Handelsblatt, which cites an internal company document.
