Volkswagen AG CEO Martin Winterkorn, whose contract a group CEO expires next year, tells Stern that recent hires from BMW and Daimler would make possible successors.
Winterkorn, 67, says possible successors include Andreas Renschler, who joined VW on Feb. 1 to lead its commercial truck operations; and Herbert Diess, the product development chief who left BMW last October to become chairman of the management board for VW-brand cars.
Both candidates are 56 years old. Winterkorn says a passion for product, good relations with dealers and a personality that fits the VW culture will be significant factors in the selection.
