Volkswagen Group will invest 4.5 billion rand (€302 million) in South Africa for new products and supply chain improvements, Bloomberg News reports.

Nearly 75% of the investment will be in Daimler's factory at Uitenhage. The facility currently has capacity to make about 120,000 VW Polo superminis, most of which are exported.

VW say it will spend 1.5 billion rand (€101 million) on supply chain infrastructure enhancement between now and 2017.
