Volvo Group tells reporters in India it will expand bus exports from the country to include Europe beginning later this year. The company did not announce a sales target.
Volvo Bus's factory in Hoskote currently supplies the Indian market and exports city and inter-city buses to Bangladesh, Nepal, South Africa and South Korea. The company says shipping buses to Europe will help stabilize production against local market fluctuations.
The Hoskote facility has capacity to make 1,500 buses per year and currently makes about 700 units annually. Volvo says units built for the European market will comply with Euro VI standards.
