Volvo Repeats as Telematics Carmaker of the Year

For the second straight year, the annual TU-Automotive Detroit conference in Novi, Mich., named Zhejiang Geely Holding Group Ltd.'s Volvo Cars unit carmaker of the year for telematics applications.

For the second straight year, the annual TU-Automotive Detroit conference in Novi, Mich., named Zhejiang Geely Holding Group Ltd.'s Volvo Cars unit carmaker of the year for telematics applications.

Judges praised Volvo for its long-term commitment to telematics, Vision Zero safety initiative and implementation of its Sensus Connect infotainment system. The carmaker also received kudos for working with start-up companies to develop next-generation technologies.

In a keynote address at the conference, Volvo CIO Klas Bendrik said opportunities are "accelerating exponentially" for connected car applications. He listed four key areas sensors, broadband, mobile devices and the cloud as prime business segments of the future.

  • Influencer of the year: Matt Jones, senior technical specialist - Infotainment, Jaguar Land Rover
