Volvo Car Corp. has revealed details about its high-performance S60 Polestar concept, a sedan that can scurry from zero to 100 kilometers per hour in 3.9 seconds and hit a top speed of more than 300 kph.
The car is powered by a 374 kW version of Volvo's T6 3.0-liter straight six engine. A Garrett turbocharger and modified combustion chambers and intake manifolds help the powerplant generate 575 Nm of torque. Output reaches the wheels through a six-speed manual transmission and all-wheel-drive system.
The 1,620-kg car is about one-third more powerful than a standard S60. It also sits 30 mm lower with front and rear tracks that are 20 mm and 40mm, respectively.
Volvo says there are no specific plans to produce the S60 Polestar, whose performance rivals that of the BMW M3 and Mercedes-Benz C63 AMG supercars. But it says it might make a limited number if public demand is sufficiently high.
