Volkswagen AG says it will conduct three global recalls to fix possible fuel leaks, electrical glitches and transmission problems in 2.64 million of its cars, pickup trucks and SUVs.
The biggest campaign will address customer complaints about VW's 7-speed dual-clutch transmissions. A second recall will replace a defective fuse in about 800,000 Tiguan small SUVs. The third action focuses on fuel line leaks in the company's Amarok pickup truck.
The transmission recalls addresses recurring customer complains about rough shifting, loss of power and/or sudden acceleration. About 640,000 of the affected vehicles are in China. VW says it will replace a synthetic oil used in the gearboxes with mineral oil.
VW has had previous problems with its dual-clutch transmissions, which combine the efficiency of a manual gearbox with the convenience of an automatic. It recalled nearly 67,000 Audi and VW models in the U.S. four years ago to replace a faulty transmission sensor.
VW also has conducted two previous recalls in China in the past 12 months to update the transmission's software and address complaints about noise, vibration and failure to start.
