Michigan-based VLF Automotive says its new Force 1 supercar’s 8.4-liter V-10 engine can generate 745 hp and 638 lb-ft of torque. The $268,000 vehicle, which is based on Fiat Chrysler Automobile’s Dodge Viper, was introduced this week at the Detroit auto show.

The specially tuned V-10 boosts the engine’s horsepower 15% and torque by 6% over the Viper’s output. VLF says the Force 1 can rocket from zero to 60 mph in less than three seconds on its way to a top speed of 218 mph.

Other goodies include Brembo high-performance brakes, Pirelli P Zero tires and an active suspension. The latter, developed by Viper racecar driver Bob Keating, is said to significantly improve ride and handling.

The heavily modified Force 1 gets a carbon fiber body, allowing it to tip the scales at just under 3,400 lbs. Styling is highlighted by a massive hood with distinct air vents, 21-inch wheels, thin headlights, curved side windows and a rear spoiler.

Interior amenities include a mix of quilted leather and suede upholstery along with a champagne bottle holder located between the seats. A wi-fi hotspot is standard.

Formed earlier this year, VLF Automotive is led by entrepreneur Gilbert Villarreal, automotive icon Bob Lutz and most recently, design guru Henrik Fisker. The company is an expanded version of VL Automotive, which Lutz and Villarreal launched in 2012.

It took just 10 weeks to build the prototype Force 1 from the time it was sketched out, according to the partners. Production, which is due to launch in April at VLF’s facility in Auburn Hills, Mich., will be limited to 50 units this year. The car’s will be sold through Keating’s Viper Exchange distributors, with deliveries beginning in the third quarter.

VLF also launched a redesigned version of its Destino two-seater at the Detroit show. That vehicle is a modified version of Fisker’s Karma plug-in hybrid sedan fitted with a Chevrolet Corvette V-8 engine.
