General Motors Co. will offer a track-ready performance package for V-6-powered Chevrolet Camaro LT coupes for the first time, starting with 2017 models late this year.
The 3.6-liter mill generates 335 hp and 284 lb-ft of torque. It’s mated with a 6-speed manual transmission.
The LT performance package also includes Brembo brakes, a beefed-up suspension, dual exhaust, 20-inch aluminum wheels and Goodyear Eagle F1 tires. The combination provides 0.97G of cornering grip.
Chevy says drivers have achieved lap times with the V-6 models comparable to previous-generation LT models equipped with a 6.2-liter V-8.
The performance package will continue to be available in Camaro SS coupes powered by the 455-hp V-8 and 6-speed manual transmission. For 2017, Camaro SS performance variants add a specially tuned version of GM’s magnetic ride control system and what’s described as a segment-exclusive electronic limited-slip differential. Lateral acceleration will exceed 1G, according to the carmaker.
Recaro racing seats and a performance data recorder are standard on the SS and optional on the LT cars. GM introduced the new high-performance Camaros this week at the Chicago auto show.
