The U.S. has advised the EU it would drop its threatened tariffs on imported aluminum and steel from Europe if the EU agrees to cap shipments of those metals at 2017 levels, according to Der Spiegel.
The magazine says U.S. Trade Representative Robert Lighthizer also wants the EU to take part in other trade steps, including support for efforts to curb what the U.S. considers steel dumping by China.
Reuters says U.S. Commerce Secretary Wilbur Ross and EU Trade Commissioner Cecilia Malmstrom have agreed to meet this week to discuss both areas in greater depth.
