On Thursday the U.S. Federal Trade Commission announced six new enforcement actions of deceptive or fraudulent practices by car dealers under the commission's Operation Ruse Control crackdown.
The sweep has resulted in 187 settlements in the U.S. and 65 in Canada through a joint effort between the FTC and 32 law enforcement agencies. The six new cases collected $2.6 million in judgments.
The settlements involve such transgressions as hidden finance fees, deceptive advertising, odometer fraud, misleading marketing programs and inflated prices for add-on products.
