The History Channel is pulling the plug on the U.S. version of "Top Gear" after six seasons with the final episode due to air Tuesday night.

Rutledge Wood, who co-hosts "Top Gear USA" with Tanner Foust and Adam Ferrara, announced the news on Facebook and Instagram. But Wood is hopeful the show eventually will get picked up by another network and vows to continue to work with his partners.

The original BBC version of the program has been in turmoil since star Jeremy Clarkson was ousted last year for assaulting one of the show's producers. A reboot launched this spring has failed to match the popularity of its predecessor, which largely is attributed to frontman Chris Evans’ uneven performance.

Clarkson is reuniting with his former "Top Gear" co-hosts, Richard Hammond and James May, on an Amazon streaming show called "The Grand Tour" this autumn.
