U.S. safety officials are investigating several cases in which Daimler AG was too slow and uninformative in launching safety recalls for its Mercedes-Benz cars, Bloomberg News reports.

The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration says it found many instances in which owners weren’t notified within the 60-day period required by federal law. In a separate filing, NHTSA questions the process and speed with which the company decides to issue a recall and notify the agency.

NHTSA complains that Daimler sometimes omits critical details about why the company decides to launch recalls or how it plans to implement them.

The agency also asserts that Daimler often fails to meet mandated standards for supporting the agency’s process for looking up vehicle identification numbers related to recalls, according to Bloomberg.
