Ford Motor Co.’s Edge crossovers and Fusion sedans are being investigated by U.S. regulators for flaws relating to “door ajar” and electric steering failures, respectively.
The Fusion probe by the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration follows up on nearly 1,600 customer complaints about 2011-2013 model Edge crossovers displaying a “door ajar” warning light that stays on. In some cases, owners say, closed doors may swing open when the vehicle is moving.
Ford says the open-door indicator and possible door latch problem are not related to earlier recalls of some 3 million vehicles with latch component failures.
NHTSA’s Fusion investigation stems from more than 500 complaints that the electric steering in 2010-model Fusions may abruptly fail. Ford previously recalled 2011-2012 model Fusions to fix the same flaw.
