Federal prosecutors have charged Norwood Jewell, a former United Auto Workers union vice president, for participating in the misuse of worker training center funds at Fiat Chrysler Automobiles NV.

Jewell headed the union’s FCA department between 2014 and his sudden retirement in 2017, six months before completing his four-year term. He had succeeded the late General Holiefield, who along with his wife, was part of the same scandal.

Jewell was implicated a year ago in the scheme, which investigators say siphoned off some $4.5 million in funds intend for a UAW-FCA employee training center in metro Detroit. The continuing federal probe so far has convicted seven people, five with the UAW and two with FCA.

U.S. prosecutors say Jewell violated the Labor Management Relations Act by accepting more than $40,000 worth of travel, hotel and meal from FCA employees during his tenure as the leader of the UAW’s FCA department.
