The U.S. has closed an investigation into reports of abrupt brake failures in Ford Explorer Police Interceptor SUVs.
The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration opened the probe, which covered some 50,000 vehicles, more than three years ago after reports of front brake hoses failing during pursuit driving training sessions by the Sacramento, Calif., police department.
But NHTSA said yesterday it could not confirm similar failures in other Police Interceptors and opted not to order a recall.
