The average new-car sales volume per dealership in the U.S. is likely to set a new record in 2015, according to Detroit-based Urban Science Inc.

Dealership throughput has notched new highs each year since volume reached 812 vehicles per outlet in 2012. Last year U.S. dealers averaged 921 sales.

The string of record years has occurred because car sales surged after the great recession in 2008-2009, but the number of dealerships has remained relatively unchanged, according to the market research firm.
