UPDATE: Faulty Fuel Pump Triggers Chrysler SUV Recall

Chrysler Group LLC plans in late October to call back 188,700 of its 2011 model Dodge Durango and Jeep Grand Cherokee SUVs in the U.S. to replace a flawed fuel pump relay.
Another 42,100 vehicles, nearly half of them sold outside North America, also will be repaired. All affected vehicle are equipped with a 3.6-liter V-6 or 5.7-liter Hemi V-8 engine.
The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration says the pump relay, located within the engine's fuel pump power module, could fail, thus causing the engine to stall or refuse to start.
The relay's contact spring can be overheated and worn out prematurely by a combination of high ambient temperatures, contact power and battery voltage, according to Chrysler. Dealers will replace the relay with a more durable externally mounted unit.
