The British government says it will invest 100 million (€138 million) over five years to bolster research on "intelligent mobility." The plan adds matching funds from the U.K.'s auto industry.
Funding will support tests of car-to-car and car-to-infrastructure communication by carmakers in partnership with such industries as telecommunications, the Financial Times reports. Last year the government pledged 19 million to begin automated-vehicle tests in Greenwich.
Backers say the program also will help the U.K. develop the skills needed to support such research.
