Tata Motors Ltd.'s Jaguar Land Rover unit will invest 200 million ($324 million) to prepare its factory in Castle Bromwich, England, to build Jaguar's new F-Type convertible sports car, according to the Daily Telegraph.
The F-Type, which is based on Jaguar's C-X16 concept, will go on sale in about 12 months. Jaguar confirmed the program last month but did not say how much would be spent to prepare the Bromwich factory.
The F-Type is a successor to the E-Type sports car Jaguar introduced 50 years ago. Jaguar confirmed last month that the new model will be powered by its new supercharged 3.0-liter V-6 engine. The engine will be tuned to make 380 hp for the F-Type and 340 hp in Jaguar's 2013 model XF and XJ sedans. The engine replaces Jaguar's naturally aspirated 5.0-liter V-8 next year.
