The U.K.'s output of cars fell 4% to 128,300 units in April, as a slump in exports offset a surge in production for the domestic market, according to the London-based Society of Motor Manufacturers and Traders.

April's output for local consumption jumped 11% to 29,900 units. But the month's production for export dropped 8% to 98,400 units.

SMMT says the U.K.'s production through the first fourth months of 2015 totaled 530,500 units compared with 538,200 in the same period last year. Output in January-April climbed 19% to 135,400 units for the home market but fell 7% to 395,100 for export.
