A new smartphone app that enables consumers to hail independent motorcycle taxis in Indonesia is proving hugely popular, the Nikkei Asian Review reports.
The Go-Jek app was launched in Jakarta in January. Since then the app has lined up 10,000 "Gojek" drivers in four cities, according to CEO Nadiem Makarim. He says motorcycle taxis are especially popular in Indonesia's largest cities, where chronic traffic jams are common.
Go-Jek users also can use the app to summon a driver for courier service or to pick up shopping items or restaurant take-out orders.
