Union workers could strike as soon as Sunday afternoon at Ford Motor Co.'s F-150 pickup truck plant in Kansas City, Mo.
United Auto Workers union local 249, which represents 7,000 employees at the factory, claims Ford isn't negotiating a local contract in good faith. The talks, which are not part of UAW negotiations with Ford on a nationwide pact, revolve around seniority, worker heat stress issues and manpower.
Todd Hillyard, bargaining chairman for the local, says both sides have been meeting continually. But he complains in an online post that local-level Ford representatives haven't made decisions on remaining issues. He says the company is sending in people from headquarters this week in hopes of reaching agreement quickly.
The F-150, which also is produced in Dearborn, Mich., remains Ford's top-selling and most profitable model. Dealer supplies of the trucks are just beginning to return to normal after a lengthy shortage caused by extensive retooling at the two facilities to prepare them for the aluminum-intensive truck.
