The United Auto Workers union added about 12,000 members in 2014, increasing its total to 403,500, according to a filing with the U.S. Dept. of Labor.
The 3% increase marks the fifth consecutive year of modest gains since the union's membership slumped to 355,200 in 2009. The UAW's membership peaked at 1.5 million in 1979.
