Subaru Inc. says it has suspended vehicle production in Japan for a week because some of its suppliers were flooded by Typhoon Hagibis on Oct. 12.

Subaru has halted car and most engine and transmission production at its Gunma complex after several suppliers for the facility were disrupted by flood waters. The company reports no employee injuries or serious damage to any of its own facilities.

Subaru hopes to resume production by about Oct. 25. The company appears to be among the most affected by the typhoon. Toyota Motor Corp. halted output at a dozen vehicle, engine and parts plants in central Japan on Monday. The facilities resumed operations a day later.

The deadly storm, which clipped the eastern coast near Tokyo before heading back into the Pacific Ocean, produced significant flooding and mudslides in central Japan. The storm reportedly killed at last 77 people.
