The U.S. Dept. of Justice has indicted two sales executives with Japan's Mitsuba Corp. for conspiring to fix the prices of windshield wiper systems and other components between 2000 and 2010.
The indictments say Hiroyuki Komiya, former director and then vice president of automotive sales, and Hirofumi Nakayama, sales operating officer, conspired to fix prices and urged others to destroy incriminating evidence when their scheme was discovered.
The two executives each face penalties of as much as 10 years in prison and $1 million in criminal fines.
The Justice Dept. has indicted 50 other executives and 32 companies on similar bid-rigging charges.
Mitsuba agreed two years ago to pay a $135 million criminal fine for fixing prices on fan and starter motors, power window motors and windshield washer and wiper systems. The company supplies parts to Chrysler, Fuji Heavy (Subaru), Honda, Nissan and Toyota.
