President-elect has appointed General Motors Co. CEO Mary Barra to a 16-member advisory group to provide him with “frank, non-bureaucratic and non-partisan” advice about creating jobs and expanding the U.S economy.
The Strategic and Policy Forum will be chaired by Stephen Schwarzman, co-founder and head of New York City-based private equity firm Blackstone Group LP.
Barra notes that her presence in the group will give the auto industry the ability to “contribute to a constructive and open dialogue about key policy issues.” Trump has been harshly critical of U.S. carmakers, especially Ford Motor Co., about supplying the U.S. with vehicles made in Mexico.
Trump’s transition team says the group’s initial meeting will be in the White House during the first week of February. Among other members are the CEOs of Boeing, Boston Consulting, Disney, EY, JPMorgan Chase, IBM and Wal-Mart.
