Republican frontrunner Donald Trump tells a Michigan audience that, as president, he would "not allow" Ford Motor Co. to continue building a $2.5 billion factory in Mexico and would demand the facility be moved to the U.S.
Trump apparently was referring to two powertrain projects Ford announced in April: one costing $1.3 billion to expand engine capacity at its factory in Chihuahua and one priced at $1.2 billion to build a new transmission plant in Guanajuato.
Ford announced the projects, which will create 3,800 jobs in Mexico, in April. The company points out it also has invested more than $6 billion in its U.S. factories over the past four years, hiring almost 25,000 employees in the process.
Trump did not comment on other foreign investments by Ford or rival General Motors Co.
