Four of the region's five largest markets posted double-digit increases. Volume rose in the U.K. (+11% to 54,900 units), France (+12% to 37,000), Germany (+8% to 27,100), Italy (+33% to 12,000) and Spain (+20% to 9,300).
Demand for light commercial vehicles, which account for 84% of the overall market, grew nearly 16%. Heavy-truck volume advanced 3% to 21,300 units. Sales of large buses and medium-duty trucks declined slightly.
Combined commercial vehicle sales in the EU28 and European Free Trade Assn. in the first nine months of 2014 expanded 9% to nearly 1.41 million units compared with the same period last year.
