The factory Toyota Motor Corp. plans to open in Guanajuato, Mexico, in 2019 will debut a dramatically new way of making vehicles, according to Executive Vice President Didier Leroy.

He tells Automotive News the all-new facility will feature shorter assembly lines, a heavily revised workflow pattern and an overall configuration geared to the company’s upcoming Toyota New Global Architecture platform.

The new chassis bowed last year in the next-generation Prius hybrid sedan. The design also will underpin Toyota’s upcoming C-HR small crossover to be built in Turkey and the redesigned Corolla slated for the all-new Mexico plant.

Toyota has estimated the platform, along with overhauled factories to build it, eventually will lower product development expenses 20% and cut the cost of new assembly lines by 40%.
