Toyota Motor Corp. is showing off a new concept of its Camatte build-it-yourself electric car for children.
The company unveiled the Camatte57 so named for the number of parts required to assemble it at the Tokyo Toy Show earlier this week. The three-seater, which updates last year's Camatte, is envisioned as a bolt-together kit that families would assemble together.
The car consists of a tubular frame to which plastic panels can be bolted. Measuring only about seven feet long, the runabout features seats and pedals that can be adjusted to fit youthful drivers. Seating is configured so the right rear passenger can help operate the steering and braking systems.
Toyota did not disclose details about the car or indicate whether or when it might be produced.
