Toyota Motor Corp. has revealed architectural renderings of the U.S. headquarters campus it aims to complete by early 2017 in Plano, Tex.

The 2.1 million-sq-ft complex will consist of seven glass-sheathed buildings positioned around a central plaza that includes glass-enclosed and open-air areas. The facility is designed to house about 4,000 employees and 1,000 contractors.

The campus is being designed by Corgan Associates and will be constructed by Austin Commercial. Both firms are based in Dallas.

A small group of executives from Toyota's current U.S. headquarters in Torrance, Calif., moved to Texas in April to begin the relocation process. The company expects most of the transfers to occur in late 2017, but it has not indicated how many staffers in California will make the move.

Jim Lenz, CEO of Toyota's North American operations, says all current employees will be told exactly what their job in Plano would be if they decide to relocate.
