Toyota Motor Corp plans to offer a low-cost package of camera- and laser-radar-based driver aids in virtually all Lexus and Toyota brand vehicles in the U.S. by the end of 2017.

The active safety technologies debuted in Japan last November. They include lane departure and pedestrian alerts, automatic braking to mitigate collisions with pedestrians or other vehicles, adaptive cruise control and automatic high-beam headlamp control.

The systems will be priced between about $300 for entry-level vehicles and $635 for luxury models, according to the company.

Toyota will initially offer the technology in the American market in the Lexus RX midsize crossover and Toyota Avalon large sedan and RAV4 small crossover. Seven other models will get the option later this year.
