The all-new Supra sports car Toyota Motor Corp. is co-developing with BMW AG will be powered by a twin-turbocharged V-6 engine, according to several media reports.

The V-6 powerplant, which will debut next year in the Lexus LS large sedan, is expected to make more than 400 hp and 300 lb-ft of torque. A hybrid-electric variant of the sports car also is said to be in the works.

BMW likely will use its own engines in its version of the upcoming rear-wheel-drive car. The BMW model is expected to be introduced in 2018, which would put it a year ahead of the Supra’s 2019 launch.
