Toyota Motor Corp. has settled a wrongful death lawsuit involving the fatal crash of a Toyota Camry sedan in Utah that was scheduled to go to trial on Feb. 19.
The case was to be the bellwether case for hundreds of sudden-acceleration wrongful death and personal cases against Toyota that have been consolidated in federal court in California.
The settlement involves the families of two people killed in 2010 when their Camry struck a wall after sharply accelerating. The plaintiffs agreed not to disclose the settlement terms. Such agreements often also seal all evidence gathered by the plaintiffs.
The next wrongful-death trial is set to begin on April 15 in Los Angeles.
