Toyota Motor Corp. is upping the ante on a rear suspension fix for cars and crossover vehicles it announced four years ago.
The repair will prevent mechanics from improperly tightening the rear suspension after an alignment. This could allow one or both rear suspension arm adjustment threads to rust and break.
The original recall involved 2006-2011 model RAV4 small crossovers and 2010 model Lexus HS 250h hybrid sedans. About 778,000 of the affected vehicles were in the U.S., and 100,000 were in Canada.
Toyota indicates about 337,000 of the vehicles have not yet been fixed. Repairs to those models will comprise replacing both rear suspension arms and using an epoxy to prevent further adjustment in subsequent service visits.
