Toyota Motor Corp. is recalling 49,000 late-model Prius hybrid sedans and Lexus small crossover vehicles in the U.S. whose airbags may not deploy in a crash.

The campaign targets 2016 model Prius hybrid sedans and Lexus RX midsize crossover vehicles and 2015-2016 model Lexus NX compact crossovers. Owners will be notified in late March, according to the company.

The problem is a sensor that could fail and cause an open circuit. If the fault occurs, it will illuminate an airbag system warning light on the instrument panel.
