Toyota Motor Corp. is launching a global recall of 124,100 of its American-made Avalon large sedans to repair a flaw that can cause the front seatbelts to tighten and airbags to inflate when they shouldn't.
The action covers 2003-2004 models, about 119,000 of which are in the U.S.
Toyota blames the problem on electrical "noise" generated by other electrical components in the car. Dealers will add a noise filter to the airbag control module.
