Toyota Motor Corp. is launching two recalls to fix a brake defect and replace an under-vehicle spare tire device that could fail.
The larger campaign involves some 450,000 Sienna minivans made during the 2004-2011 models years and sold in cold-weather states. Road salt can corrode a retaining cable used to hold the spare tire under the rear of the vehicle. If the cable breaks, the tire could fall off. Toyota says more than 85% of the minivans were sold in the U.S.
The company also is recalling about 16,000 of its 2013 model Lexus GS luxury sedans to replace the brake pedal support assembly. The component contains a switch that could fail, causing the car's brakes to come on spontaneously.
