Toyota Recalls 143,000 Trucks and SUVs

Toyota Motor Corp. is launching two worldwide recalls to fix faulty airbag and braking systems in nearly 143,000 pickup trucks and SUVs. More than 90% of the vehicles were sold in the U.S.
One campaign targets 95,900 of the company’s Toyota Land Cruiser (pictured) and Lexus LX 570 large SUVs that were made during the 2008-2019 model years. Affected vehicles have a seatbelt pretensioner sensor that could fail and turn off the front passenger’s front, side and knee airbags.
A separate recall targets Toyota Tacoma midsize pickup trucks with brake master cylinders that could develop internal leaks. The callback involves 47,000 trucks made in the 2018-2019 model years. Damaged cylinders would reduce front braking capability and give the brake pedal a spongy feel.
Toyota says both recalls will begin in late January.
