Toyota Motor Co. expects to build 9.90 million vehicles worldwide next year compared with an estimated record-high 9.89 units in 2012, The Nikkei reports without citing its sources.
The company plans increases overseas that will offset shrinking production in Japan, according to the Toyko-based newspaper. It adds that Toyota will probably finalize its 2013 targets and announce them next week.
The company aims to reduce domestic output of Toyota, Lexus and Scion vehicles by 10% to 3.10 million vehicles next year, The Nikkei says. Toyota intends to boost overseas production 6% to 5.26 million units.
The higher 2013 target includes expanding 13% to 760,000 vehicles in Thailand and nearly doubling output to 200,000 units in Indonesia. The newspaper says production schedules for China are unclear because Toyota's sales there have plunged amid a wave of anti-Japan sentiment.
Toyota's Daihatsu and Hino subsidiaries will add 1.2 million units of production, up 3% from 2012, the newspaper reports.
