Toyota Motor Corp.’s full-size Land Cruiser SUV will switch from its current V-8 engine to a V-6 when the next-generation model is introduced in 2020, sources tell Japan’s Best Car.

The SUV is expected to use a de-tuned twin-turbocharged 3.5-liter V-6 that powers the Lexus LS sedan, according to the report. In the Land Cruiser, the engine will make 415 hp and 442 lb-ft of torque.

The new Land Cruiser also could get the LS’s multi-stage hybrid-electric powertrain. That system teams a different 3.5-liter V-6 with a pair of electric motors and a 4-speed automatic transmission, which Toyota says replicates the performance of a 10-speed automatic.

The current Land Cruiser is powered by a 5.7-liter V-8. The vehicle’s body-on-frame architecture is expected to be retained.
