Toyota Motor Corp.’s latest recall to replace explosion-prone Takata Corp. airbag inflators involves 1.7 million vehicles worldwide, 75% of them in the U.S.

The recall is in addition to 170,000 older models covered by a recall posted by the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration last month. Like that campaign, the new callback targets passenger-side front airbag inflators. Earlier recalls have targeted driver-side frontal inflators.

Both campaigns are part of a staged, multi-year recall orchestrated by NHTSA and that involves more than 100 million Takata inflators used by 19 carmakers in the U.S. Toyota says the new group comprises these models:

  • 2010-2013 Matrix 5-door hatch
  • 2010-2013 Corolla small sedan
  • 2010-2015 4Runner SUV
  • 2010-2015 Scion XB small MPV
  • 2011-2014 Sienna minivan
  • 2010-2012 Lexus ES 350 luxury sedan
  • 2010-2013 Lexus IS 250 and 350 luxury sedans
  • 2010-2014 Lexus IS-F high-performance sport coupe
  • 2010-2015 Lexus IS 250C and 350C sport coupes
  • 2010-2017 Lexus GX 460 large SUV
