Japanese interiors supplier Toyota Boshoku Corp. has opened a $22 million R&D center in Shanghai. The facility consolidates the company’s two Chinese labs, The Nikkei reports.
The facility, one of Toyota Boshoku’s five product development centers worldwide, will develop prototypes, test new products and track products made by its rivals. The company makes automotive instrument panels, door trim, fabrics, bumpers, textiles and filtration products.
The company derives about 10% of its revenue in China, according to The Nikkei. The company’s customers in the country include BMW, General Motors and Toyota.
