Toyota Motor Corp. says it will stop making its slow-selling Venza midsize crossover for the U.S. market in June and phase out export versions in September 2017.

The car, which debuted in 2008, rides on the same chassis that carries Toyota's popular Camry sedan. Toyota builds the model at its factory in Georgetown, Ky.

Toyota touted the two-row Venza as a vehicle specifically for the American market. Annual sales peaked at 54,400 units in 2009, but demand began to slip thereafter. Last year the company sold 30,000 units in the U.S.
