Potential buyers can submit applications for 2017 and 2018 models through May 11 on FordGT.com in most countries. The date is extended until May 26 for customers in China, Macau and the Philippines.
No deposit is required. But the approval process is stringent, with production limited to 250 vehicles per year.
Winning applicants will be selected in July by a panel of Ford executives and other representatives. Priority will be given to current GT owners and other “loyal Ford customers” as well as public figures and people who support vehicle-related charities.
Buyers also will be asked about their interest in Ford vehicles, collecting cars and motorsports. Ford says it also may conduct interviews with applicants, who are encouraged to submit personal videos describing why they would make good GT owners.
Once approved, buyers will work with a new dealer concierge service to customize their vehicles and arrange for delivery. Some buyers also may be requested to participate in publicity or promotional activities.
The new Ford GT website includes a configurator that allows anyone to build a virtual car. Options include eight exterior colors, seven stripes and customized brake caliper and wheel colors.
