Tesla Motors Inc. has reassigned its global sales chief and intends to hire a trio of regional executives to run its sales operations in North America, Europe and Asia, Bloomberg News reports.

Jerome Guillen, vice president of global sales and service, will return to a focus on post-sales activities. He served in that role before adding sales responsibilities two years ago.

Tesla's sales operations have struggled to keep pace with the company's ambitious sales goals, Bloomberg points out. Tesla aims to hike its deliveries 74% to 55,000 cars this year as it grows in Asia and Europe.

Adding regional sales chiefs presumably will help the company manage growth and a product line that will soon expand beyond the $89,700 Model S electric sedan.

Last year Tesla sold 55% of its output in North America, 30% in Europe and 15% in Asia Pacific. It predicted five years ago its volume would be evenly split among the three markets by this year.

The company plans to roll out its second electric car, the Model X crossover, this autumn. The vehicle will be followed by a lower-priced, higher-volume Model III sedan in 2017.
