Tesla Inc. is calling back 123,000 of its Model S electric sedans to replace power steering bolts that could corrode and reduce the level of power assist.
The problem occurs in snow-belt regions, especially those that use calcium or magnesium salts on roadways, according to the company. As a safety precaution, Tesla says it will replace the bolts in all Model S cars built before April 2016.
The company reports no accidents related to the defect and has advised owners there is no need for immediate action. Customers will be contacted when parts become available in their region. Tesla says its service centers will be able to replace the bolts in about one hour.
