Consumer Reports and Car and Driver each found that emergency braking distances for the Model 3 can vary widely from stop to stop. CR said on Monday it would not recommend the car in large part because of the problem. In some cases the issue resulted in the worst stopping distances of any car tested by the magazine.
Tesla already has improved ride comfort and wind noise, two other characteristics criticized by CR, according to Musk. He says the company will continue to refine the Model 3’s braking system until its performance is better that of “any remotely comparable car.”
