Tesla Motors Inc. will unveil its Model 3 electric sedan at a special event for select customers and enthusiasts on March 31 in California, according to a post on the Tesla Motors Club forums.

Prospective buyers at the event will be invited to put down $1,000 deposits for the entry-level EV, which is expected to start at $35,000 before tax breaks and incentives. Online orders via Tesla.com will begin on April 1, but deliveries aren’t expected to commence until late 2017.

Tesla previously indicated the Model 3 will be about 20% smaller than the current Model S sedan. The car will have a driving range of about 200 miles, which would be about 50 miles less than the Model S and recently launched Model X crossover vehicle. Tesla is expected to add a crossover variant of the Model 3 later.
